Stu Ungar is regarded by most to the greatest No Limit Texas hold’em Poker gambler ever.

The three time World Poker Champion was born in New York in 1953 and began betting poker prior to reaching his teens.

The young gambler started out wagering gin and at the age of ten had won his 1st gin tournament, while on vacation with his mother and father. By the age of 14 the small poker genius had turned professional and stopped going to school.

In 1954 Stu Ungar entered the history books by winning ten thousand dollars in a gin rummy tournament without dropping a single hand, a record which still remains in New York today.

The fast talking wiz kid has been likened, in poker terms, to athletic greats such as Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods. Stu had a genuine talent for playing poker but despite his achievements in Hold em poker, he favored playing gin.

Stu once said that there might several day be a better No Limit Hold em player than him but he could not see how anyone could ever be a much better gin gambler.

In ‘80 Stu Ungar was put on the world map as one of the best Texas hold em Poker players in the planet when he was crowned World Poker Champ for the first time. Astonishingly it was the first time he had played in the tournament.

The right after year he dismissed any thoughts that it had been a fluke, by successfully defending his crown. And in 1997 Stu set the record by succeeding his third World poker championship.

But this poker legend also struggled with substance abuse and a year after succeeding his 3rd title Stu past away in his hotel room. According to physicians, he had passed away from a cardiac event which was triggered by his lifestyle.

Stu Ungar had started out with practically nothing but his skill and natural talent for the casino game which made this poker fantastic a millionaire a lot of times over.
