No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandpa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover everything he could about poker. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse comments from others destroy his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil began competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an undying love for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and always strives to get better.

Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
